Link speed 72 Mbps, internet speed 3 megabytes, is that enough?

Visitor Question or Comment:

Hello, on my tablet it tells me that the link speed is 72Mbps and that of the cell phone tells me that it is 65Mbps, I have contracted 3megas, my doubt is if it is ok that with 3megas I have that speed and also if with that I could watch videos from the tablet or cell phone at a quality of 480 without problems. Thank you very much

Response from ALEGSA.com.ar:

The 72 Mbps (or 65 Mbps) link speed is the maximum speed your tablet (or cell phone, or whatever device you use to connect) will accept.

Your internet connection is 3 megabytes (actually we should say 3 Mbps), so much lower than 72 Mbps (or 65 Mbps), then it falls perfectly within the maximum possible link speed.

In other words, the link speed is the maximum speed (bandwidth) that allows the connection between your tablet and your router (the device that creates the Wi-Fi wireless network), but the internet speed is usually much lower (in this case is 3 Mbps of 72 Mbps), so there is plenty of bandwidth and therefore you will not have any limitations.

We are going to assume (which does not exist, but we are going to assume it) that your internet connection speed is 100 Mbps, but the link speed between your tablet and your router is 72 Mbps. In that case the internet speed will be Limited by link speed.

The speed of 3 Mbps (mega) should serve perfectly even to watch videos in 720 quality (or even higher), so you should not have any problems.
