JADE MUSEUM IN COSTA RICA

As its name says: National Jade Museum, better known as the «Jade Museum», houses a large number of stones, ceramics, and of course, exuberant «Jade» pieces, and is located in the city of San Jose, Costa Rica. This museum was built by the architect Diego van der Laat, under the inspiration of «jadeite» and «nephrite» stone.

The museum has more than 7 thousand pieces, which are the product of the manufacture of the different pre-Hispanic cultural groups that inhabited that country, during the historical period between 500 BC and 1,500 AD. c.

This museum has approximately 2,500 Jade objects, making it the largest in the world in relation to stone; It is an emblematic, characteristic and very important place in Costa Rica. In it, the presence of jade is appreciated in attractive showcases, where the pieces are the product of excellent creativity, with multiple shapes and finishes, appreciated meaning, long history and variety of art, which undoubtedly attract the attention of the public present.

In it, there are jade sculptures that were works of the «Olmec» civilizations that came from the Gulf of Mexico, which developed high artistic monuments, with great meaning and value.

As well as the existence of cultural objects from the so-called pre-Columbian jade, which is the one that arises from the works of those indigenous people who lived in Costa Rica, who excelled in creating artistic works and instruments with fine finishes and stems, all of these charged with extraordinary power.

Also, wonderful works of the civilizations of Guanacaste, Costa Rica, which represent an ideology rooted in gods; among them, the creation of one of their gods, with a face and a body.
