Is it true that Paranapiacaba (SP) is haunted?

(Ed Anderson/Strange World)

This current district of Santo André, close to Serra do Mar, emerged at the end of the 19th century as a small village for workers on the São Paulo railway system, which carried the coffee produced in the interior of the state to the port of Santos. In the early 2000s, its traditional English-influenced architecture was restored and the increased influx of tourists helped spread some of the mysterious stories that locals like to tell.

The best supernatural stories in the village

anti-ecological ghost
One of the explanations for the Poço das Moças area is that three young people drowned in the waterfall there. Their spirits remained in the place, where they roam eternally, frightening those who dare to spend the night in the thick forest. Campers report hearing noises at dawn, as if axes were cutting down trees. But in the morning they never see a log down

Next stop: beyond
There, the ghost train is not an amusement park attraction – it is a supernatural phenomenon. Residents say that, at night, you can hear a sound and feel an «air displacement» coming out of the 13th tunnel, caused by the «soul» of a train whose boiler exploded. Between the fourth and fifth platforms, there are people who hear the groans of employees who died during the construction of the railroad

The Engineer’s Castle
In order to be able to supervise the entire railway park, chief engineer Daniel Fox lived with his wife, daughter and son-in-law in a large house built in a privileged spot in the village. Therefore, the place gained the nickname of Castelinho and, of course, the reputation of being haunted. Today, it has become a museum, but reports of strange sounds in one of the rooms continue to emerge. People who have already seen the figure say that it looks like one of the paintings on the wall… exactly the one that shows Fox next to his wife

Dancing in the Dark
If the living like to have fun, so do the dead. That must be why there is the story of a ghost dancer (or ballerina), a specialist in dancing on stage at the Clube Lira Serrano (at night, of course!). Officials report hearing excited footsteps on the venue’s wooden stage. Even a tall man wearing a hat has been seen, perhaps another guest at this party from beyond. Last year, the club was the starting point of the gruesome City of Terror tour, organized to attract tourists to the village.

Oh from home!
Parked trains were a magnet for thieves and scoundrels. That’s why a night watchman went around the blocks where the railroad workers lived. To check if someone was okay, he knocked three times on the door. If the resident responded with another three raps, he moved on. The watchman has been dead for decades… so why are there still knocks in the middle of the night?

Film here, Zé!
The presence of spirits is not restricted to historical or tourist spots. They also devastate some houses, in the most varied ways. Figures passing through the rooms, closing doors, causing noises. The Balanço Geral program (Record) even made a report on a sinister frame that moved by itself. The League (Band) was also there, with a paranormal team
