Is it possible to die laughing?

Yes. Loud laughter can trigger pre-existing conditions to evolve, causing death. A famous case (among several reported since the 5th century BC) is that of the British Alex Mitchell, who died in 1975 watching the TV comedy show The Goodies. In the case of respiratory insufficiency or in cases of asthma attacks, fits of laughter, as well as coughing, change the dynamics of breathing, impairing blood oxygenation, which can be fatal. O increased pressure in the chestalso caused by intense laughter, can decrease blood circulation and kill those who have heart failure. If pressure builds up in the abdomen, it can aggravate esophageal or other hernias in the abdominal wall. Finally, in the skull, there may be rupture of an aneurysm installed in blood vessels, causing a stroke.

For some people, uncontrolled laughter can be a symptom associated with the onset of a heart attack.
