Is it possible for a man to give birth?

Theoretically, it is possible, but very risky. There are cases of women without a uterus who became pregnant, but in general they lost the baby. The man subjected to this strange experience would also have difficulties to survive. What wouldn’t be a problem is the fertilization of the egg by the sperm, which could be done in a laboratory. Afterwards, the embryo would be transferred to a space in the abdominal region between various organs of the future daddy. To increase the chances of fetal growth, the ideal would be to choose a castrated male, because he would produce little testosterone, a male hormone that is unsuitable for the baby. The “pregnant” would still have to receive a high dose of female hormones. Even under these conditions, childbirth would be dangerous. “The placenta would probably settle in the kidney, liver or other abdominal organ and bleeding at the time of the cesarean section could be fatal”, says gynecologist Abner Lobão, from the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp).

The child would also run serious risks of death, as it could have very serious physical deformities, in addition to a high chance of presenting lung and development problems.
