A woman from 84 years kept a petrified fetus in her womb for 40 years, this disease is known as lithopedion and a total of 400 similar cases have been reported in the world.
The woman arrived at the emergency room Tunjuelito Hospitalin the capital, due to discomfort in her abdomen, and after several x-rays and medical tests, it was confirmed that the patient suffered from the disease, says City Noticias.
The fetus found inside her has the appearance of one of 32 weeks gestation and the medical staff is studying the possibility of extracting it or not, due to the risk that the elderly woman runs, says El Tiempo.
According to the doctors, this case occurs in one of every 5 million people. In fact, in Colombia it is the second that they report with this disease, since in 2000 a woman from 74 yearsin Ibaguealso suffered from Litopedion.
It is expected that this Wednesday the patient will be transferred to La Samaritana University Hospital, where they have the necessary equipment to care for her, the newspaper says.
