If you are one of those people who do not like to complicate their lives and prefer to buy everything in the supermarket and ready to go, the best option is to buy the commercial brands, which come in various flavors, such as arequipe and coconut. How do you make homemade white or coconut custard?

Although it is easiest to buy a box ready to prepare, some people prefer to make it at home; If you are one of them, this recipe is for you!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of coconut milk
  • 3 cups of whole milk
  • 1 can of condensed milk (about 14 ounces)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • One and 1/4 cup of cornstarch
  • ½ cup grated coconut
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • a pinch of salt
  • Cinnamon chips to taste
  • Cinnamon powder to taste

Preparation

Step 1. Dissolve the cornstarch in milk

Put one of the three cups of milk in a small bowl, add the cornstarch and stir until it dissolves.

Step 2. Blend the coconut

Separately, put the grated coconut and coconut milk in the blender and blend until smooth.

Step 3. Heat the milk and mix with the coconut

Place the rest of the milk and cinnamon sticks in a medium saucepan and place over medium heat. When the milk is a little hot (not boiling) add the coconut mixture that you blended.

Step 4. Add the condensed milk, sugar, salt and the mixture of milk and cornstarch

When the milk boils, add the condensed milk, sugar and salt. Mix with a wooden spoon. Add the milk and cornstarch mixture. Don’t stop stirring.

Step 5. Add vanilla and butter. Thicken.

Add the vanilla extract. Reduce heat to low for 20 minutes and continue stirring until thickened. Add the butter, mix a little more and remove from the heat. Scoop out the cinnamon sticks.

Step 6. Decorate, refrigerate and serve

Sprinkle ground cinnamon on top and let cool at room temperature for at least 2 hours. Then, take it to the fridge until it sets completely. And to enjoy!
