How does the «I’m feeling lucky» button on Google work?

Question from reader Eloah Fernandes, Rio de Janeiro, RJ

It automatically directs you to the most relevant search page. When you click on the button “I’m feeling lucky”, it selects the website that most identifies with the subject you’re looking for – usually, they are official pages (if you search for “”, for example, you’ll land straight on the magazine’s website ) or those that appear first in the list of results when you use the search engine.

This is done with the help of PageRank, a system of algorithms that works as a word filter, separating everything that is related to your search. According to Google, the button “means less time looking for pages and more time exploring them”. That is, if you’re lucky, you’ll find what you need in just one click.
