Home Key Definition

Key found on typical computer keyboards, which functions as the opposite of the End key (End key). It’s one of the edit keys.

On Spanish keyboards it is the Home key.

On smaller keyboards, such as many notebooks, this key may not be present. It is usually replaced by pressing the Fn key + ← (function key + left arrow key).

Home Key Functions

In text editors for Windows and Linux, the Home key is mainly used to return the cursor to the beginning of the line where the cursor is located. When the text is not editable, the Home key is used to go back to the beginning of the document (this can also be done in editable texts, if you press CTRL + Home Key).

For example, on a (non-editable) web page, if you are in the middle of the document, pressing the Home key will return to the top of the document (moving the vertical scroll bar up).

If the Home key is pressed together with Shift in editable text, the text from where the cursor is to the beginning of the text line (to the left) is selected.
