Halloween: please do not dress up animals

People should also be considerate towards animals with their own disguise. If you have a particularly sensitive animal, you should avoid wearing a costume that also covers the face in its vicinity. “Of course, our dogs and cats also recognize us by smell, but above all they read our facial expressions. Masks and full-body costumes can unsettle or frighten animals,” says the expert.

Constant ringing and knocking, changing visitors and increased movement in front of the front door put many dogs on the alert. Especially four-legged friends, who tend to ring the doorbell at every doorbell, get stressed on Halloween. To protect sensitive animals from constant noise, you can house them in a secluded room and play music to distract from door noises. Even cats should better stay indoors on Halloween. «If possible, you should also turn the bell down or turn it off completely,» recommends Sarah Ross. «Also, if you’re having a party at home, you can let the guests know where the dog or cat is and ask them to leave the animal alone.»

A tired, overworked dog is more relaxed and doesn’t get stressed as easily: «You can enjoy Halloween much better when you know that the dog is doing well. So before you enjoy yourself in the evening, you can keep your dog busy during the day with long walks and extra play units,” advises the pet expert.
