Guadalajara's modern architecture

Mathias Goeritz, Marianne Gast, Horst Hartung, Silvio Alberti, Bruno Cadore, Carlagelo Kovacevich, Manuel Herrero Morales and Erich Coufal were the architects and artists, together with local professors in subjects of letters, art and humanism. Directed by Díaz Morales, they trained young professionals sensitive to their region, their climate, typical spaces and materials, reflecting in their works since they began graduating, in 1955.

The first graduates and some students in recent years created a group from which they supported themselves to carry out their individual projects. At the same time, the population grew quite quickly and, with it, new urbanizations or the expansion of others appeared, such as Jardines del Bosque, Vallarta San Jorge, Independence and Chapalita, where their work began to have notoriety, whose houses were of a modernity integrated to their reality.

The creation of a school with these unique characteristics, and with successful results in the hands of its first architects, was a historical fact in Mexico. The work of these prolific architects must be taken into account as historical heritage, as with their contemporary colleagues in countries like the United States, who gave us the enjoyment of this great modern architecture.
