Furniture design: the most outstanding trends of 2024

With the emphasis placed on comfort and versatile use, designers are taking the opportunity to mix, combine and devise some surprising seat solutions. The first surprise of the Stockholm design week was the Chia-Chair by Alice Hultqvist, Emilie Sjöberg and Linnea Nilsson. As part of a reflection on how furniture must be respected by their users, the three designers have created such a soft seat that invites themselves to sink into it, unless chia seeds have been planted in it, so we must reconsider the invitation: we would not want these delicate outbreaks to be folded under our weight. Junyi Lyu, who designed the chair Rattan«Following the model of an animal» to sit in horcajadas, side or reclining, it has not done any of that. Even more conceptual is the chair Accession of Carsten in der Elst, nicknamed the Paste chairwhich offers an unconventional relaxation about rubber macaroni.

Flowers, Lacitos, Colors female, Baroque mixture and rococó. Of Bridgerton to aesthetics New Romantics Taylor Swift, the trend Coquette It is fashionable in social networks. But it seems that Scandinavian designers have long been seduced by this trend, following the steps of the emblematic Editorial of Stockholm Svenskt Tenn, founded in 1924 based on colorful designs and printed. The new actors seem to reappropriate the city's culture, as in the lovely carpets and mirrors of Maden Möllard, adorned with maximalist flowers and sensual textures. Gustaf Westman has turned his study into a temple of coquetry, where bright materials, lush shapes and cheerful tones reign, such as his giant flower excavated on the ground as a sofa. There is also the carpet Chroma from Camilla Ilietfski, an ode to plants and the romanticism of flowery landscapes.

The new forms of glass seem to free themselves from the codes and overflow freely from their surroundings. Halfway between the virtual world and the molten basalt, the candlesticks of Hanna Hansdotter for Kosta wedding have an aesthetic at the same time punk and baroque, at the crossroads of art and design. In Niko June, the glass is twisted and curved in an indefinite way, as handmade by hand. Finally, the emblematic Finnish house of Crystal Iittala is renewed by the hand of a new artistic director, Janni Vepsäläinen, determined to review the design of this centennial brand from a subversive angle. The collaboration with the musician Damsel Elysium fully pursues this goal, revealing organic forms of glass, such as musical instruments, in lilac, red or peach colors.

Last, but not less important, this year's Stockholm design week also had to do with fun. From the beginning, the Lab La Bla studio invited visitors to play the Minigolf in a playful pink platform, marking the tone of this year's event. Near there, the fluorescent yellow bank Zappedof Fakt App, seemed taken from a video game, as did the Moo-chair chairby Georg Södling, with design and bovine motifs. As in a playground, the discovery continued with the table Vallation by Janita Pursiainen, imagined as a pile of Bilboquets; and the stool Kimpale Elina Remmler Gruyère, as if taken from a cartoon. Finally, we love the Cups by Luca Nichetto for Edsbyn, who invite you to sit and enjoy a comforting cup of capuchino.
