Four-level meat labeling at discounters

demands at least 40 percent more space per animal for better pig farming and a ban on cutting off body parts such as curly tails. Roughage such as hay, straw and silage must be mandatory. The weeks of permanent fixation of sows in the crate must be prohibited and limited to a maximum of four days after birth.

This minimum level of animal protection must not only apply to all private initiatives, but above all to the planned state label from Federal Minister Klöckner. Otherwise animal welfare is written on the packaging without anything really changing for the animals in the barn. So anyone who buys cheap meat that has been awarded level 1 or 2 by food retailers should be aware that the animal was not kept according to genuine animal welfare criteria.
