Format Bar Definition (menu or tool)

The format bar is a tool that is usually available in word processors and other applications that work with text, and that allows you to change the format of the text.

The format bar usually has options for the choice of the font used to write, and the choice of color, character styles (bold, italic, normal, etc.), font size, underline style, special effects (strikethrough, double strikethrough, superscript, subscript, shadow, outline, emboss, deboss, small caps, capitals), character, line, and paragraph spacing, and other effects.

It is usual that the format bar or menu is simply called «Format», in some applications it is directly called «Text», «Font».

The format bar in Windows 10 WordPad is divided into two: Font and Paragraph.

Typical Functions of the Text Format Bar

– Change the font.

– Font color.

– Change the font size.

– Choose the font style and paragraph style.

– Paragraph alignment: left, right, justified.

– Numbering and vignette.

– Line spacing.

– Indents or tabulations.

Format bar in Microsoft Word

The formatting bar in the Microsoft Word 2016 version is separated into three: Font, Paragraph, and Styles.

In Font you can change the font type, size, style, highlight text, background and borders, strikethrough, index and superscript, remove any formatting, etc.

In Paragraph numbering, vignette, text justification, background, borders, etc. are allowed.

In Styles we will have several styles already predefined to choose them and apply them quickly.
