File Manager Definition (application)

A File Manager is any application in charge of manipulating files on storage devices. These programs make it easy to manage files on hard drives, floppy disks, optical discs, etc.

Other names: file manager or file explorer, and file manager or file browser in English.

The basic functions that a file manager allows are: copy, paste, move, create directories, delete, rename and search.

Advanced options may include different types of views, sorting files, previewing media files, sharing files over a network, remote file access, FTP, printing, changing file attributes, changing file permissions, etc.
