Global trend for more animal welfare
For years, most of the public has opposed fur production. A clear trend reversal towards animal and environmentally friendly fashion can also be seen in the big fashion houses all over the world. Today’s consumers want ethical and sustainable fashion that doesn’t make animals suffer.

Last week, the European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) ‘Fur-free Europe’, which advocates an EU-wide ban on keeping and killing animals for the sole purpose of fur production and a ban on the import of farmed fur products into the European market, held an important Milestone reached: ‘Fur Free Europe’ has passed the official mark of one million valid signatures required for a potential law change. Earlier this year, 38 major clothing brands including ba&sh, Hugo Boss, OVS and Marc Cain also wrote to the European Commission to support the European Citizens’ Initiative.

The Fur Free Retailer Program is the world’s leading initiative to connect fur-free businesses with consumers looking for ethically made products. The program is an initiative of the Fur Free Alliance (FFA), which is active in over 35 countries around the world. The Alliance is an international association of more than 50 environmental and animal protection organizations that work together to end the breeding and killing of animals for their fur. Over 1,500 brands and retailers are now part of the initiative.

The International Animal Welfare Foundation offers support and advice to companies that are striving for a verifiably fur-free restart.
