We live in a world governed by likes on the like button. Every day we inhabit a society in which influencers have come to have an incredible role from the comfort of their homes and from the supposed naturalness of their posts on social networks… but is the life we see every day real? Can you create a influencer right from the start?
Fake Famous and the truth behind what we see on Social Networks
FAKE FAMOUS, created and directed by journalist Nick Bilton, questions what fame and influence are in the digital age. To carry out this experiment, Bilton chose three people from Los Angeles, United States, with few followers on social networks to transform them into famous «influencers».
The documentary examines how everything is transformed around these three people, when they discover the wonders of this new world, at the same time the price that an improbable and immersive lifestyle has. FAKE FAMOUS demonstrates the obsession with maintaining likes and followers, and how we rely on false scenarios to present a «performance» to millions of social media users.
FAKE FAMOUS is directed, written and produced by Nick Bilton, produced by Annabelle Dunne and Mary Recine, executive produced by Nancy Abraham and Lisa Heller. Senior Producer Sara Rodriguez.
FAKE FAMOUS will be available on HBO and streaming HBO GO and this is its official trailer
