A rule of thumb for the correct use and dosage of Elanco for dogs does not exist due to the wide range of drugs.

It depends on the disease or the parasites against which a corresponding drug or spot-on is to be administered.

Nevertheless, we will give you some examples of different dosages and applications.

For Advantage for dogs, the correct dropper with the correct imidacloprid (active ingredient) concentration is based on the dog’s body weight.

The dog’s body weight also plays a role in other of Elanco’s canine medicines.

If, for example, galliprant has to be administered, the dosage here is 2 mg grapiprant per kilogram of body weight per day.

How long does it take for Elanco to work in dogs?

If it is an anti-inflammatory painkiller, it may take longer before the first improvements are visible.

What side effects can Elanco cause in dogs?

The side effects that Elanco can cause in dogs depend on the product, but are with almost all medicines always with gastrointestinal complaints tied together.

These include above all nausea, vomiting, soft faeces and (sometimes bloody) diarrhea.

Especially with spot-ons and flea collars, the chemical agents can also lead to hair loss (alopecia).

These minor side effects usually go away on their own after a few days.

If you are giving your dog an antibiotic, you should give it a probiotic at the same time, which helps against soft stool/diarrhea.

When should I not use Elanco on dogs?

Elanco for dogs should not be used in most cases if Hypersensitivity to any of the active ingredients present.

This is linked to a genetic defect (MDR1) that causes a sometimes life-threatening drug intolerance.

Dogs that suffer from kidney and liver dysfunction should also not be treated with many Elanco for dog medicines.
