Eclectic method: is it the ideal for your child?

What does the word eclectic mean?: comes from the Greek eklektikos which means «the one who chooses».

Created by: Robert Gagné, American psychologist, in 1985.

Methodology: offers a complete human development taking strategies, principles and concepts from various pedagogies. It brings together all the methods, taking the good of each one to promote speed in learning, create a firm foundation of knowledge that is learned gradually and improve attention and discipline. It recognizes that the truth is the result of a commitment that does not show adherence to a particular theoretical line. It is based on an information processing model.

Role of the teacher:

to. Handles a range of possibilities of knowledge transmission strategies.

b. Makes a justified selection of the appropriate teaching strategies.

c. Makes preliminary diagnoses of students’ prior knowledge.

d. Analyzes the learning styles that characterize students.

and. Take advantage of the various resources available, as well as the features of the classroom.

F. Determines the sequence that must be followed to teach the educational contents established in the study programs. It is not necessarily a rectilinear sequence but it can resume, deepen and expand on the topics.

Student role:

to. He works in research.

b. Do self-directed consultations.

c. Learn to learn through various strategies and methodologies.

d. Develop mnemonic learning.

and. He is able to memorize, apply, exemplify, expose and solve problems.

F. Develop a critical, analytical and reflective attitude.

Assessment: It combines various forms of evaluation characteristic of different pedagogical methodologies.
