Don’t be embarrassed to ask your gynecologist these questions!

No matter what your question or concern is, it is likely that your question has a simple explanation, but it may happen that thanks to you your doctor realizes something that he was omitting. Here are five questions that gynecologists say their patients are embarrassed to ask:

1. I have very little sex, is that okay?

According to Dr. Susan Blum, this is a very common question, and many women feel better when they discover that a high percentage of couples have sex only once a month or less. This is most noticeable when both people are working or soon after giving birth, but it’s completely normal.

2. The smell

Many women ask their gynecologist if it is normal for their vagina to smell «fishy», and the answer is that it should not be, but it is an easy problem to solve.

This odor is usually a symptom of the most common type of vaginal infection and can be treated with antibiotics. It never hurts to go to your doctor when you see something different, and don’t be embarrassed by the warning signs your body gives you.

3. Should I get an STD test?

Yes, the answer is always yes. If for some reason you’re thinking you should get tested for STDs, do it! Even if you have been in a monogamous relationship for many years, if you are not taking care of yourself with a condom, remember that you are not only sleeping with your partner but with all the women he was with before you. Many diseases, like chlamydia, don’t always develop symptoms, so even if you’ve had it for several months, you may still be infected. Sleep peacefully, treat problems, avoid infections, get an exam.

4. Herpes

If you have it, you know that it does not go away, but it is not the end of the world. There are two types of herpes, the oral one that causes the fires and the genital one that appears around the anus and the vagina. Telling your partner can be difficult (although it is the responsible thing to do, under no circumstances should you hide an illness of this type) but your doctor can help you avoid contagion. There is medicine that you can take and methods that you must follow. Don’t be embarrassed to ask!

5. Positions to conceive?

Many women who are trying to get pregnant ask if there are any positions that help conception. Even if you feel that if you raise your pelvis, it is more likely that the sperm will reach where it should go, the truth is that there are no studies that indicate that one position is better than another. However, ask your doctor what you can do to increase your chances of getting pregnant.
