Does the Tasmanian devil really exist?

Yes there is. Taz, the clumsy character of the cartoons, is inspired by an exotic marsupial that lives in Tasmania, an island in Oceania belonging to Australia. For those who don’t remember, marsupial mammals are that group of animals that also include kangaroos, koalas and possums. The Tasmanian devil (Sarcophilus harrisii or laniarius) is the fiercest of this whole bunch. Owner of an unstable temperament, he has a powerful bite, thanks to his strong jaw, large molars and because he can open his mouth at an angle of 120 degrees. Therefore, when grabbing a prey, it can easily crush its bones. In addition to rabbits and snakes, it feeds on dead animals, insect larvae, bird eggs and even earth. With short, black fur, the real-life Taz stands at 80 centimeters and 12 kilos, the size of a medium-sized dog.
