Group member from 1983is remembered for his flair for creating tropical hits.
Every year-end it has been a tradition for the Los Tupamaros orchestra to present a new seasonal hit, a hallmark that identifies them. The person responsible for this always new rumba has been Ferdinand Jaramillo.
The musician would have suffered a heart attack on Tuesday night and was discovered by his relatives at his home this Wednesday morning.
The orchestra was created in 1980 in the tavern The Balcony of the Snowson Calle 21 with Carrera VII, in Bogotá, began with seven musicians and functioned as a cooperative.
It was three years later that Jaramillo entered the group to replace the pianist and since then he has become the heart of the group. Exact 30 years of his presence in the group.
From then on they sowed hits like ‘The skinny’and then came ‘The gummy girl’ Y ‘Cachete, chest and navel’.
For a time, Jaramillo left the orchestra and joined The Eight of Colombiabut his house would call him back later.
The gummy girl:
“It was a time when there were no female singers in tropical groups”Jaramillo recalled in an interview with EL TIEMPO: «Rochy was the first brunette to enter, and then we brought a blonde (…) when they saw us, other orchestras like Matecaña and Los Ocho de Colombia followed our example».
In that same talk, the musician claimed that tropical music had been displaced from the radio but “we continue because they call us a lot for dances and popular parties”.
Among those unique triumphs that came with it, was the unusual invitation of the British musician peter gabriel to take them on a tour of Paris, Stockholm and AmsterdamJaramillo recalled. They have also received five gold congos.
One of his most remembered concerts was the one he gave at the Sales Square, Madrid.
What “a friend, a connoisseur of tropical music in Colombia”described the radio announcer and salsa lover Vincent Moors.
