(execute, run, run). In computing, execute is the action of starting the loading of a program or any executable file.
In other words, execution is the process by which a computer carries out the instructions of a computer program.
Compiled programs (for example, on Windows, the .EXE) or interpreted programs (for example, the scripts) can be executed.
Executing a program implies that it will be in the execution state and, therefore, in memory, until it is finished.
Some bibliographies extend the definition of execute to include loading files that are not executable. For example, when a JPG image is played and the program to view it is opened, or when an MP3 sound is played and the audio player is opened. Technically speaking, what is actually running is the program that is responsible for interpreting the non-executable file.
In Windows, most running programs are listed in the Task Manager, from where they can be terminated.
