The Enter key (also called input or return), is one of the most important keys on computer keyboards. Large computer keyboards typically have two Enter keys.
Generally speaking, pressing the Enter key performs the default operation in dialog boxes, forms, and command lines. It actually executes the active button, which is usually the positive or forward button, the «Accept» or OK button.
For example, in forms and dialog boxes, it is used to execute the most obvious process (usually Find, Submit, Enter, etc.).
The Enter key is also used when editing text to achieve a «carriage return» (carriage return refers to old mechanical typewriters) or to achieve a new paragraph start.
Some word processors distinguish between a simple Enter (new line, with a paragraph break) and a Shift + Enter (new line, no paragraph break).
On a computer keyboard, this key generally has the text «Enter» or «Enter» printed on it and has an arrow pointing to the left (⏎ or ↵), as you can see in the image. Many Apple Mac computers use the ⌤ symbol.
