Create your own essential oils and enjoy their beneficial properties

You don’t have to spend a lot to get the essential oils you want. In fact, all you need is a manual to make them at home and know what each scent is for. Essential oils have been around the world for centuries, but today they have become more popular among those who seek well-being through natural products.

Essential oils are distilled liquids from plants, seeds, flowers, fruits, stems, roots, trunks, and leaves. A batch of pure essential oil can take hundreds of kilos of flowers and leaves to prepare. While there are others that are combined with other substances.

It is important to consult a therapist when you want to make use of the properties of aromatherapy. Like any medicine, oils serve a particular purpose and some can cause harmful effects if not used responsibly.

How to make your own essential oil from home:

First you must choose the plant to make the extraction, you can be guided by the aroma that you like or by its properties. To make the oil we will teach you the maceration method.

You need:

  • airtight glass jar
  • Base oil (extra virgin olive, almond or jojoba)
  • your plant or herb
  • Process:

Once you have chosen your plant, let the part you are interested in dry to extract the oil. The more water you remove, the purer the oil will be. Then, place the dry plant and the base oil inside the glass jar (for every 100 grams of plant you get 1 liter of macerate).

When filling the glass jar with oil, make sure that the plants are well covered by the liquid, close it tightly and keep it away from heat or direct light for six weeks. This is where patience will be essential, since the best results from an essential oil are obtained after almost a month and a half.

Once the month and a half is over, filter the oil, for that you can use a fine cloth. Wrap it up, decorate it and you’re done. Your essential oil is ready to use.
