Ingredients

  • 1 cup (240ml) milk
  • One cup (160 gr) yellow cornmeal
  • One cup (140 gr) wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup (100g) sugar
  • 2 tablespoons (50 g) melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder or 1/2 baking soda
  • Egg
  • a pinch of salt

Preparation

Step 1. Mix

The first thing you should do is pour all the dry ingredients into a bowl (corn flour, wheat flour, baking powder and sugar), mixing them very well. Now, in a separate bowl, mix the liquid ingredients (egg and milk), stirring perfectly so that they are integrated. It will be time to pour the liquid ingredients into the bowl of dry ingredients, making sure to mix very well. Add the melted butter (which must be cold) and the pinch of salt. Stir and you should have a thick sticky dough.

Step 2. Bake

Take the mold in which you are going to make the bread and add butter and flour inside so that it does not stick to you. Then, put the dough inside the pot and try to make it even everywhere. Take the pot with the lid on to the stove and put it on the smallest burner and at the lowest temperature you can for about 20 or 30 minutes, continually checking that it will not burn on the bottom or on the sides. Insert a stick after this cooking time and if it comes out clean, the bread is done. Unmold and that’s it, you can now share a piece of this bread with your whole family, good luck.
