Comfortis for dogs is an anti-flea agent used to combat an acute infestation of fleas in dogs is used.
It can also prevent (re)infestation with fleas. The active ingredient spinosad ensures this. This is an insecticide derived from a bacterium.
Spinosad is therefore a natural active ingredient. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t poisonous to many insects, including fleas.
Comfortis for dogs is available in the form of chewable tablets.
They are available in seven different spinosad concentrations: 140 mg, 180 mg, 270 mg, 425 mg, 665 mg, 1040 mg, 1620 mg.
The correct use and dosage of Comfortis in dogs
The correct dosage of Comfortis in dogs depends on the dog’s body weight. For example, dogs that weigh up to 2 kilograms receive 90 mg spinosad 1.3.

The Comfortis chewable tablet is administered either together with the feed or immediately afterwards. This allows the active ingredient spinosad to develop optimally.
Important
Stick to the vet’s recommended dosage. Also refrain from using Comfortis on your dog yourself. Get the okay from the vet as well.
How long does it take for Comfortis to work in dogs?
Comfortis in dogs has an effect that starts after 30 minutesone of the shortest effective times for antiparasitics.
In addition, the preventive effect against fleas lasts up to 4 weeks. Check with your vet though.
Many anti-flea products claim that they should be effective for up to 4 weeks, but then they are not.

It makes sense to change the antiparasitic regularly. This will prevent fleas and other parasites from becoming resistant to the active ingredients.
What side effects can Comfortis cause in dogs?
Common side effects of Comfortis in dogs primarily affect the gastrointestinal tract and are expressed in the form of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
Vomiting in particular is said to be the most common side effect. Comfortis can also hit some fur noses on the intestines.
These side effects can occur not only on the day of treatment with Comfortis, but also on the following day.
In general, the side effects go away on their own. Keeping a close eye on them makes sense though.
Especially in the case of an overdose, which can happen, a symptomatic treatment by the veterinarian should be carried out as soon as possible.
When should I not use Comfortis on dogs?
A safe exclusion criterion for the use of Comfortis in dogs is always a hypersensitivity to the active substance.
Also, Comfortis should not be used on dogs that weigh less than 1.3 kilograms. This can quickly lead to an overdose.
Dogs suffering from epilepsy should only be treated with Comfortis for dogs after a thorough risk assessment by the veterinarian.

You can only get Comfortis for dogs from your vet or upon presentation of a prescription in a (veterinary) pharmacy.
