After finishing his participation in the Olympics, Caterine Ibargüen says goodbye to sport leaving an indelible mark on the history of athletics in the country.
The one born in Apartadó, did not have the end to her career that she would have wanted. Far from the final result in Tokyo 2020, she left the name of Colombia high. After finishing in tenth place in the last test of her sporting life, she decided to say goodbye to competitions and undertake new professional challenges.
After finishing a weightlifting test at the Olympics, Caterine Ibargüen sent a message to Mercedes Pérez after failing to win a medal, showing her admiration. In the same fair, the athlete said no more and ended her long career on the track. Definitely, she filled us with glory with many triumphs and made us vibrate in each of the competitions in which she was.

For more than 18 years, the so-called Ebony Goddess represented the country in the high jump, long jump and triple jump modalities, the latter being the one that consecrated her. At 37 years of age, Ibargüen has put an end to a brilliant sports career in which she obtained, among other titles:
- Two Olympic medals: gold in Rio 2016 and silver in London 2012.
- 6 Diamond League titles in athletics.
- Two world titles, 1 silver medal and 2 bronze medals in this same competition.
- 2 gold medals and one bronze at the Pan American Games.
- 3 gold medals in Continental Cups.
- Two gold medals and one silver at the South American Games.
To close her award-winning career, the agency of Jos Hermens, representative of the athlete, sent a press release to inform the decision. In it, they stated that: “Colombian jumper Caterine Ibargüen has announced her retirement. After her participation in the Tokyo-2020 Olympic Games, where she qualified for the final of the women’s triple jump, Ibargüen decided that the Games in Japan would be the last”.
Also, the multiple champion published an image on her Instagram in which she left a few words of farewell to her followers in the world and expressed her happiness for all the achievements in her professional career:
