Button Definition

(button). In graphical user interfaces, buttons are widget types that allow the user to start an event, such as searching, accepting a task, interacting with a dialog, etc.

In general, the buttons are rectangular and have a description or image in the center that summarizes the action. A button is pressed by clicking on it, or by pressing Enter if it is selected. It can also usually be pressed with any key or combination of keys.

The most common buttons, especially on dialog boxes and forms, are:

* Accept (OK), Send (Send), Yes (Yes)

* Cancel (Cancel), Close (Close), No

* On window systems, the little minimize, maximize, close, and restore buttons on windows. Generally these buttons are represented with small icons.

* Other buttons: Save (Save), Reset, Clear form, Delete, etc.
