BEAR SANCTUARY Prishtina was founded to create a safe haven for the so-called «restaurant bears» in Kosovo, which were kept in tiny ramshackle cages next to restaurants to lure customers. saved all of these bears, ending forever this cruel form of abuse of brown bears in the country. Restaurant bears from Albania have also found a new, species-appropriate home in the sanctuary.
At the sanctuary, the bears finally have the opportunity to express their natural behavior in a lifelong home while receiving the professional care they need. The large enclosures offer the animals enough space to move freely and retreat. All enclosures have trees and/or wooden structures for climbing and ponds for swimming. The enclosures are also where the bears can hibernate, which is part of their natural annual cycle of activity.
