What does Christmas smell like? Here we collected the most characteristic aromas of these dates.
The smell is first cousin of memory. The link between smell and memory is so close that the weakening of this sense is associated with the loss of it. In fact, some scientists recommend associating concepts with smells, so as not to forget them… (We would have known that when we were at school).
Sometimes we surprise ourselves by saying «I already smell Christmas», but we do not know exactly what aroma we were referring to. For this reason, we share with you the smells that are most associated with this holiday:
-Pine tree: Although in Colombia it is not customary to make the Christmas tree with a real pine, the mere image of a pine transports us to these dates, and by extension, the smell of its branches.
-Strawberries with chocolate: This dessert is something new for our country, but the little ones are already getting used to it and ask for it more and more; new generations recognize this smell as Christmas.
-Ginger: Gingerbread cookies are a Christmas classic, so if you want your house to smell like December, this root is the secret.
-Apple and cinnamon: There is no centerpiece that doesn’t have a cinnamon stick or an apple, so this combination takes us from one to December.
-Moss: Before, cribs were made with moss, that’s why it’s a smell that reminds us of a crib… But what does moss smell like? Well to Christmas!
-Banana leaves: For that of the tamales, that although we consume them throughout the year, it is at Christmas when we eat them the most.
-Plastic: Whether it’s the tree or the toys, plastic has a Christmas scent that can’t be denied.
-Cold meats: Ham, turkey and lamb with their respective plum sauces lead us to the table served even with our eyes closed…
-Wax: The aroma of burning candle wax is, nothing more and nothing less, than the beginning of these parties, the night of the candles!
-Ninth meal: Donut, custard, cookies, wine, cake… All those fatty and sweet foods that are served to one of the Novenas.
What other aroma tells you that Christmas is here? Tell us!
