Ingredients
- 1 pound of precooked corn
- 3 cups of hot water
- 250 grams of grated double cream cheese
- 125 grams of melted butter
- Half a tablespoon of salt
- a tablespoon of sugar
Preparation
Step 1. Mix
Pour the flour into a bowl and make a hole in it to mix all the ingredients. Add the sugar, salt, and melted butter all at once. Also, add all the water little by little while stirring until you get a compact and smooth dough. Let this dough rest for about 5 minutes or until it is cold.
Step 2. Knead
Once it is cold, knead for about 3 minutes evenly so that you get the best texture. The way to know that the dough is ready is to see that it does not stick to the bowl or to your hands. Now, take small pieces of dough and make medium-sized balls and immediately open them in half to add the cheese. Once you fill it, close it again and crush it with your palms so that it takes the shape of the traditional arepa.
Step 3. Fry
Add a splash of oil or a bit of butter to a pan and let it heat over medium heat. Once it has taken temperature, go putting each of the arepas to fry them. You should leave them about 5 minutes per side or until they have taken on a golden tone; there you can turn it. Once they have taken on that color and texture, you can turn up the heat to toast them (they will swell up a bit on their own). Ready, it will be time to serve them so that you eat them warm, bon appetit!
