Are there other places similar to the Bermuda Triangle?

(Strange World/Strange World)

Yes. There are at least two other dangerous shipping regions that are named after the famous triangle in the Caribbean. One of them is the Dragon’s Triangle, which is located between Japan, Guam and Taiwan. The area has another unfriendly nickname: “Sea do Diabo”. The intense history of disappearances dates back to the 1940s. Between 1952 and 1954, five Japanese vessels disappeared there, with about 700 people. For this reason, the country even decreed the Triangle as a danger zone. The main scientific explanations refer to the high seismic activity in the region, with underwater volcanoes and eventual tsunamis.

Another “cursed triangle” is not even on the high seas: it is the Lake Michigan Triangle, between Ludington, Benton Harbor and Manitowoc, in the USA. The first recorded problem there was in 1891, when the schooner Thomas Hume disappeared at night, on a journey to look for wood on one of the shores of the lake. Extensive searches never found even pieces of the boat. The unexplained cases continued regularly. One of them was the boat Rosa Belle, in 1921. It disappeared and was later found overturned, with signs of collision. However, there were no records of other boats in the region – much less boats that were also damaged. Eleven people died and the mystery remains. From the 1950s onwards, air problems over the Triangle also began to be recorded. Northwest Airlines Flight 2501 disappeared with 58 people on board, never found.
