Hamburg, March 17, 2021 – A recent research by the global animal welfare foundation shows that the average price of puppies on online platforms such as eBay classifieds has almost doubled compared to 2019. While in November 2019 the average price for puppies on the classifieds portal was still around 840 euros per animal, puppies are currently being offered for an average of around 1,700 euros. This is getting the puppy mafia on the scene, because the dog business is currently more lucrative than ever.
The demand for puppies is still much higher than animal shelters or reputable suppliers can meet. This not only makes it easy for illegal puppy traders who sell animals that are much too young and sick anonymously via online platforms, but also causes the asking prices to skyrocket. However, the real price is paid by the animals that are traumatized or seriously ill and often have to pay with their lives. Pomeranian Pomeranians, Maltese or Labradors are currently being offered at particularly high prices. A puppy of these breeds usually costs between 2,000 and 3,000 euros.
