Activities for children #3: Textures with Cornstarch
Play with them because time flies! Today with Karen Vinasco and Simona we will do textures, another of our screen-free activities for children, with a very delicious result for them.
Steps:
1. In a bowl combine 1 cup of baby food with a cup of cornstarch. stir well
2. Separately place half a cup of water. TIP: You can color your texture by using artificial or natural food coloring in the water.
3. Combine the water (with or without coloring) with the mixture of porridge and cornstarch
4. Add 3 tablespoons of cooking oil
5. Mix and knead the mixture very well; at first the texture will be sticky and lumpy but as you knead it it will become soft, uniform and manageable, like a plasticine
To preserve its texture you can have it for 1 to 2 days in a sealed container in the fridge. Every time you take it out of the fridge it can have a hard and unwieldy consistency but kneading it again with your hands will return it to its ideal consistency.
The dough can be kept for 1-2 days in a sealed container in the fridge. It may be stiff and/or crumble when you first remove it from the refrigerator. To make it return to its normal texture you can knead the texture until it gets hot. If it is still dry after kneading, you can moisten your hands and it will return to its ideal consistency.
Remember! This dough is perishable, so you should always carefully inspect for any signs of deterioration, such as mold, discoloration, or a bad smell, before playing with your child.
