Luces Velásquez did not know William Levy before he starred in Café

Velasquez Lights I didn’t know William Levy before starting the recordings of the novel in which the Cuban played the role of his son.

The actress born in Medellín, Antioquia, is one of the most recognized figures of acting in Colombia. With more than 35 years of experience on television, theater and film, Luces became world famous for her role as Bertha in the soap opera I am Betty the Ugly one. This production is very loved by Internet users and in fact, it was recently revealed which is the most sought-after chapter of this novel and the result was really surprising for many.

Luces could also be seen in the remake of woman-fragranced coffee, a novel in which she played the role of Julia Vallejo, the mother of Sebastián, the character of William Levy. Despite what viewers thought, the Colombian artist did not know the Cuban actor and that was evidenced in the first talk they both had before the start of the recordings in the coffee region.

Luces Velásquez did not know William Levy before starring in Café

This is how the same actress told it in the middle of an interview with the journalist Fernando Fabián Sarmiento, revealing the details of that first meeting.

Luces confessed that he did not watch Mexican soap operas and for that reason, he did not know the very famous heartthrob in that country. To be exact, Velásquez recounted that “He arrived, sat down with me, introduced himself and so on, and then he told me: ‘Do you know who I am? Do you know me? Do you know my background?’ And I looked at him like that and said, ‘I have no idea who you are.’ Then he told me: ‘How come you don’t know?’ I told him: ‘No’. ‘Haven’t you seen anything I do?’ I told him: ‘No, I don’t watch Mexican soap operas, I don’t know who you are.“.

Far from getting angry or assuming a divo attitude, Levy surprised Luces with her response and, as she herself confessed “Then he said to me: ‘Shall we have a coffee and talk?’ And I told him: ‘Of course, my love’. (…) He did not sit down to talk with me about his fame and his recognition and others, but he told me about his life from Cuba, since he was a child, about the misery he had experienced, the difficulties he experienced in Miami when he arrived”.

With this unusual response, Levy made the Colombian understand that she had come to win the hearts of viewers. Although it has been said that the Cuban William Levy and Laura Londoño would have fought on the set of Café, and that he would have starred in discussions with his companions, Luces Velásquez affirmed that it is “A supremely generous guy with the entire technical team. He always had to give, to offer. He never gave it to him as a divo, never. (…) He could have done it differently, but no, he was very generous, very simple and he got along with the whole team”.
