Affordable marriage, synonymous with lasting

A marriage is more successful if the wedding is full of people and the groom does not buy a flashy engagement ring.

This has been reflected in a study that indicates the situation and projection of couples when they make a large investment in an ostentatious ceremony, very different from the one that is done without much budget.

To be sure, for many people the cost of the party has no impact on the couple’s relationship: why should they?

But a recent study by economists at Emory University in North America shows that they may be wrong.

Research reveals that men who spend between 2 thousand and 4 thousand dollars on the engagement ring are 1.3% more likely to get divorced than those who prefer something nice but less luxurious and spend between 500 and 2,000 dollars.

Things get worse for women. The probability of divorce increases by 3.5% for those who spend more than $20,000 at the wedding party. But if many people are invited to the wedding and the couple goes on their honeymoon, the possibility of a happy and lasting relationship increases.

In other words, a marriage is more successful if the wedding is crowded, the food is cheap, the groom doesn’t buy a flashy engagement ring, and the couple enjoys a few days of honeymoon.

Why?

Economists concluded that the high cost of the wedding and the ring is due to the fact that the bride and groom are willing to do anything to create the perfect day. The problem is that this fantasy makes them forget their finances and commit themselves to expenses that they simply cannot afford. That’s where the problems start.
