Meet the family still living in the 80’s

Blair McMillan and his 27-year-old girlfriend, Morgan, live each day like it’s 1986. And they’re doing it so their sons – Trey, 5, and Denton, 2 – learn to live without technology.

That is why in their house in Toronto, Canada, any technological advances after 1986 are prohibited. This means that they have phones but not smartphones; videos but not DVDs; video games but not PlayStation; photos but no Instagram; Y TV but without cable.

The McMillan’s bank in person and if they want to know something, they won’t be able to search Google, since they do not have a computer or internet connection.

The experiment began McMillans, when earlier this year he asked his eldest son for help, who refused because he was “too busy with his iPad“. And that’s how the project started. The couple decided to give up their cell phones, delete their accounts from Facebook and terminate cable service. In the house, the family put up a box for visitors to store their phones, tablets and other devices during their stay.

On the other hand, Blair indicated in an interview to the Toronto Sun site that the cost of living is reduced when you do not pay for internet or cable. «It’s much cheaper». However, being without technology makes it difficult for the family patriarch to find a job, as many companies only accept online job applications.

The anti-tech clan plans to film a documentary or write a book about this experience, which they say brought them “closer”. The project will end in April 2014. The only thing they could not abandon was the family car, a Kia 2010, but they don’t use their gps.
