Six data to celebrate the Palace of Fine Arts

The facade consists of three porches with low reliefs of female figures. At the top of the main portico, «the Virile Age» and «Youth» in angels are represented. Under them, to the center, there is a low relief whose figure, in the form of a woman, represents «harmony.» In addition, in the scene there are other characters that embody sadness, pain and kiss. And below, on the sides, there is a series of female sculptures. For its part, on the terraces of the facade there are six more figures, while the face of the work is completed with sculpted columns and pilasters.

The dome characteristic is covered with ónix, copper and ceramic sheets, and is crowned with a republican eagle surrounded by four women who are taken from their hands. Already inside, they stand out in the lobby masks alluding to Tlaloc and Chaac. The walls are decorated by creations of the main muralists of the time: Diego Rivera, Clemente Orozco, David Alfaro Siqueiros and Rufino Tamayo. And the doors and windows have elements of Mexican flora and fauna, such as liras, snakes, leaves and palms, in wrought iron.

But without a doubt, the main room takes all the charm of the building. It has a capacity for 1,791 spectators. The stage curtain shows the images of two volcanoes (made by the ** Dr. Atl) **, and its weight is 24 tons thanks to the fact that it is made by the house Tiffany With a million crystals. All this is finished in the circular ceiling lamp, which represents the Greek God Apollo, surrounded by the Muses of the Fine Arts.

> Obstacles in its construction

A work of such wingspan could not be oblivious to problems. The main ones were given by the sinking of the construction, which was detected around 1907. To correct it, wells were performed, as well as a attaguía to channel the water of the subsoil. Lime, sand and clay injections were also performed.

The UNESCO declared the property monument artistic in 1987. It is the main headquarters of the National Symphony Orchestra, the National Dance Company, the National Opera Company and the Folkloric Ballet of Mexico. In addition, inside it is divided into three rooms and two museums, in which diverse exhibitions are presented.
