The nose is a pyramid-shaped protrusion with a triangular base located in the middle third of the face, above the mouth and below the eyes. Its frame, made up of bone in the upper part and cartilages on the sides and in the lower area, it is covered with a thick layer of skin rich in sebaceous glands.
Inside, the nose has two nostrils, separated by a partition, which communicate with the outside through the nostrils and with the pharynx* through posterior openings called choanae.
Its entire internal surface is covered by a mucous membrane, made up of mucus-secreting glands and cells equipped with villi or cilia.
Many times, due to sensitivity to pollen, dust, ragweed, cat or dog hair and other allergens, as well as low temperatures and even without infection, the dryness of the atmosphere can dry out the membranes of the nose.
To compensate, the body produces more mucus. So if the ambient dry heat continues, the nasal discharge becomes thick, dries up and forms a crust.
People who have a deviated nasal septum can also accumulate nasal secretions that, as a result of the dryness of the air, form a crust. This nasal crust causes congestion, headache, and breathing difficulties. It may be one of the causes of snoring and sleep apnea. It can also give rise to nosebleeds.
Below are several natural and home remedies to alleviate this disorder
folk remedies
Remedy for dry nose # 1: Boil 1 liter of water containing 2 tablespoons of ginger root for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and inhale the steam
Remedy for dry nose # 2: Put 2 tablespoons of menthol and 2 of eucalyptus in half a liter of water and boil for 10 minutes. Then remove from the heat, place a towel over your head and inhale the steam. This remedy, like the previous one, will allow the discharge of nasal secretions. The nose will be hydrated, the crusts will come off and you will be able to breathe freely. Although it is a very simple remedy, it is very effective.

Remedy for dry nose # 4: Dilute 2 drops of soft eucalyptus oil (never pure) in 1 teaspoon of sesame oil and moisten a cotton stick with this preparation. Introduce into the nose for a few moments.
Remedy for dry nose # 5: Prepare a spicy soup or some vegetables with a pinch (if you can add more and can handle it; better) of Cayenne pepper powder or chilli This will increase circulation and help clear your nose and remove nasal crusting.
Remedy for dry nose #6 chop one onion and inhale the smell. Onions contain ammonia, a very powerful decongestant. It causes tearing and favors sneezing. Tears from the eyes pass through the tear ducts into the nostrils and lubricate and soften the crusts; then the sneeze manages to eliminate them.
Remedy for dry nose #7 Lubricate the nostrils with a few drops of Castor oil.
Remedy for dry nose #8 Dissolve 1/2 teaspoon of salt in 1/2 cup of water which is known as a saline solution. Pour a few drops into the nose to lubricate them and facilitate the removal of crusts.
Remedy for dry nose #9 Moderate a raw garlic, as it helps to lubricate the nose and facilitates breathing.
Remedy for dry nose #10 Pour 2 tablespoons of previously crushed carambola seeds into a container containing 2 liters of boiling water, place a towel over your hair as a tent and inhale the steam. Do not bring your face too close to the container; try to have an arm’s length away.
Remedy for dry nose # 11 Mix equal parts water and lemon juice. Then, soak 2 cotton balls with this preparation and introduce, for a few seconds, in each nostril.
Remedy for dry nose # 12 Apply, externally, plasters or cold clay poultices in the area of the nose and forehead twice a day for one hour. When the discomfort subsides, even if it is minimal, make an application of the same duration for three or four more days.
recommendations
Use a humidifier. During the night, it is recommended to use a humidifier so that the air in the room is warm and humid. If possible, an ultrasonic humidifier should not be used; hot water ones are better
drink plenty of water If you don’t drink enough water, you can become dehydrated which can also contribute to a dry nose.
Avoid, as far as possible, the use of drugs such as antihistaminesas they can cause nasal dryness.
Avoid constant use of commercial nasal sprays, as they can be counterproductive. In other words, they can help with nasal dryness in the first few days, but their prolonged and frequent use can cause them to react, causing more nasal dryness over time, causing the person to use more and thus producing a vicious circle.
Perform daily exercise. It is important to note that exercising makes the body happen and there is more moisture in the membranes, which facilitates the hydration of the nose, reducing dryness.
Precautions
Do not use pure eucalyptus oil in the nose; it should always be diluted with sesame oil or some other mild oil to avoid burning your skin or sensitive tissue in your nose.
