Remedies for ulcers

Ulcers are quite common in developed countries, so that 5% to 10% of its inhabitants suffer from it at some point in their lives.

The disease usually manifests itself between the ages of 30 and 50, although in some cases it even appears during childhood.

There are different types of ulcers: gastric or peptic (affecting the lining of the stomach), duodenal (affecting the upper part of the small intestine) and esophageal ulcers (related to the Reflux).

Duodenal ulcer is more common in men, while gastric ulcer affects both sexes equally. On the other hand, it seems that some people are more predisposed than others, which seems to reveal the influence of genetic causes, although these have not yet been established.

Among the characteristic symptoms of an ulcer are the following:

  • Pain or burning: This appears from 1 to 4 hours after the ingestion of food and usually subsides when other foods are consumed.
  • vomiting They are not frequent and when they appear, it is usually at times of maximum pain
  • hemorrhages. This can be abundant, expelling the blood through the mouth (hematemesis) and/or through the intestines (melena).
  • Stomach heaviness after meals,

Ulcers may be due to recurrent gastritis that has become chronic. They can also be generated by:

  • genetic factor
  • Bacteria such as Campylobacter or Helicobacter pylori,
  • continuous use of aspirin and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and cortisone therapy,
  • Emotional tension or stress
  • deficiencies in the diet

recommendations

Recommendations when you have ulcers

Adopt a diet rich in fiber from fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and especially, during severe attacks, eating fruit and vegetable purees or packaged baby foods.

Eating six small meals throughout the dayoften soothes ulcers because moderate amounts of food neutralize stomach acid.

Avoid extremely hot or cold foods since they could alter the digestive functions. Likewise, drinks with caffeine such as coffee, tea, etc., and beer and wine, as they may exacerbate ulcers by stimulating the secretion of stomach acids

discover a Diet to relieve peptic ulcers

Include in the diet a good dose of carrots and spinachsince these two vegetables have a high content of vitamin A, a substance that has the property of helping to regenerate the stomach mucosa.

Consume essential fatty acids. The presence of fatty acids stimulates the formation of a natural substance, prostaglandin, responsible for protecting the stomach lining. To provide essential fatty acids, it is enough to consume safflower and flax oil daily, alternating them and always taking them raw.

go to a doctor if symptoms persist (especially vomiting and nausea) because other health problems could be involved

preventive recommendations

Eliminate drinks that contain alcohol, spicy foods and smoking.

Avoid taking aspirin and any pain reliever too irritating to the stomach.

Relax daily stresses through exercise, sports and other entertainment.

Try a healthy diet with foods that are easily digestible.

Eat slow

Avoid all unpleasant conversations, discussions and any type of reading during meal times.

try to rest (without lying down as this could cause reflux) during the first hour of digestion

Prevent gastritis from becoming chronic, as it facilitates the appearance of ulcers The gastritis It consists of inflammation of the gastric mucosa, a disorder that can be due to multiple causes. In most cases, gastritis is acute, and is due to the ingestion of spoiled food, or irritating substances, alcohol abuse, or taking certain medications. In these cases, with proper treatment and diet, it usually disappears without leaving sequelae.

However, gastritis is sometimes chronic in nature, either of immunological origin (due to the formation of autoantibodies directed against the gastric mucosa), or secondary to infection by Helicobacter pylori, or due to continuous irritation of the gastric mucosa due to the habitual ingestion of alcohol or by taking some medications or, also, by the reflux of bile salts into the stomach. In these cases, the gastric mucosal barrier is destroyed, and the acid penetrates the stomach walls, which determines the formation of a gastric ulcer. In short: acute gastritis are not usually the cause of gastric ulcer, but chronic ones are. Hence, the importance of treating it on time and avoiding its chronification.
