In the days of sailing, when ships used to spend months without touching port, scurvy was a common disease among sailors, with high mortality rates.
Already in the 18th century, it was intuited that scurvy was a deficiency disease, attributable to the lack of some substance contained in fresh food.
Thus, it was determined that the administration of fruit juice, especially lemon, prevented its appearance and contributed to its cure in patients.
The English government ordered in 1795 the regular administration of juice of lemon to the sailors of the navy, with which the disease was banished.
Studies on avitaminosis in the 20th century demonstrated that scurvy was basically due to a dietary deficiency of vitamin C.
However, there are other factors that can also lead to its appearance such as:

Although many people are unaware of these two herbs, they are rich in vitamin C. In the case of thyme, it provides 160 mg (267% DV) of vitamin C per 100-gram serving.

Remedy for scurvy #8: Extract the juice of 1 orange and 2 tangerines and mix with a little water. Take immediately after serving, preferably in the morning.
