Remedies for inflamed nerves or neuritis

Neuritis is a disease caused by nerve damage, which causes disorders in sensitivity and motility.

When a single nerve, plexus, or root is affected, it is called mononeuritis, while if there is bilateral, symmetrical, and synchronous involvement, it is called polyneuritis. This in turn can be acute or chronic and in chronic forms we can find demyelinating forms or axonal forms.

Mononeuritis is usually motivated by mechanical causes (trauma, compression and entrapment), and atrogenic, ischemic, infectious or inflammatory causes.

Among the most common causes of polyneuritis are those produced by certain diseases, such as diabetes, uremia, infections and certain types of cancer. Deficiencies of B vitamins and certain toxins, including alcohol, lead, arsenic and cyanide, can also cause polyneuritis.

The diagnosis is made by means of a medical history and a physical examination and if this is not enough, an examination called electromyography is carried out, with which it is verified if the conduction speed of the nervous stimuli is lower than normal. Blood tests, spinal fluid tests, and bone x-rays may also be done to find out the cause of neuritis.

At the beginning of the disease the following symptoms appear:

inflammation of one or more nerves
Tingling and pricking
Concern
Insomnia
General discomfort
loss of appetite
loss of muscle strength
Nerve pain and tenderness

Subsequently, the following symptoms manifested:

Paralysis of the muscles in the affected area (such as the Facial paralysis) and strong shooting pain during the night that runs through the entire inflamed nerve and increases with any movement
Atrophy and emaciation of the muscles

A particular case of neuritis is that which occurs in a nerve of the arm called the median, in the place where it crosses the doll. In this sector, the nerve runs between several bones and ligaments that form a kind of channel called «Carpal tunnel».

If for any reason (osteoarthritis or arthritis of the wrist bones, inflammation of the ligaments area) this channel narrows, the nerve is compressed and causes neuritis.

During pregnancy it is normal for neuritis to appear in the arm. This type of neuritis is due to fluid retention typical of the gestation period, which causes the narrowing of the channel through which the median nerve passes in the wrist. After childbirth the triggering causes disappear, with which the pain ceases spontaneously.
