Female Wisdom: The Orgasmic Teachings of Betty Dodson

Betty Dodson was born in Kansas and in 1950 moved to New York to study art. Nine years later, she married an advertising director named Frederick Stern and the marriage lasted 6 years before reaching divorce. After which, Ella Dodson began a path of self-discovery and left the art world to become a famous sex educator who has taught many women how to enjoy their bodies; that is, how to masturbate and have orgasms.

His first book «Sex for One» was a huge success, but that’s not the only reason behind his popularity. For more than 40 years, Dodson has been running workshops where groups of women, and sometimes men, talk about her experiences, they explore her body and even masturbate to what sometimes turns out to be her first orgasm.

We have previously discussed how taking a few minutes each day to indulge in self-pleasure can help women heal their relationship with their bodies and sexuality. As well as recognizing blockages and allowing them to surface in order to be recognized and resolved. This is because as Betty Dodson has explained in her article “Awakening the clitoris”:

“After hearing countless stories from girls and women over the past four decades, I believe that sexual repression begins the moment a parent or caregiver punishes a child’s natural curiosity about touching his own sexual organs.

Society needs to understand that the health of each person’s sexual life lies in masturbation during childhood, since these are the foundations on which all human sexuality is based. It is very consistent as every client I observe struggling with orgasms is an adult who has no recollection of masturbating in childhood or puberty. The absence of this natural self-exploration interferes with the development of the neural pathways that carry positive sensations from our genitals to the pleasure centers of the brain. This blocks or slows down the development of sexual release during orgasm.

If this has aroused your curiosity, in this video you can witness how Dodson imparts her knowledge to other women who come to her in search of pleasure and freedom.
