Mudra Ganesha: awaken your inner energy and overcome obstacles

Mudras are gestures that are made with the hands, are considered sacred and are attributed the power to stimulate different parts of the body and enhance emotional and mental states.

This mudra, for example, leads you to connect with your inner being to awaken your inner energy, builds self-confidence and helps you find the courage to overcome anything that prevents you from moving forward.

Its name honors the Hindu god Ganesh, who is considered the remover of obstacles. Furthermore, it is believed that this deity sometimes puts obstacles in the way so that people can gain strength by overcoming them.

Thus, based on this symbolism, the Ganesha mudra is considered a way to obtain energetic and physical strengthening for the heart.

To perform this mudra, the left hand must be placed against the chest, with the palm facing out and the fingers bent to grasp those of the right hand, which must be placed above. The hands remain at the level of the heart, while they are separated energetically without releasing the grip.

The Ganesha mudra is associated with the element of fire and with the anahata chakra. (of the heart) and is considered a practice that opens the heart, which is beneficial for those who suffer from headaches or have depression or feelings of heaviness and sadness.

Physically, it’s good for strengthen the muscles of the arms, chest and shoulders. It is said to release tension in these areas, and is even beneficial for opening up the bronchi and lungs. It also stimulates cardiac activity and strengthens the heart. In addition, it helps speed up metabolism and improve digestion.

As you meditate and perform the mudra, breathe in and as you exhale bring your arms out without letting go of your fingers. As you inhale, release the tension in your arms and bring your hands back in toward your chest. Repeat this movement six times and then change the position of the hands, so that the right hand is stuck to the chest. Repeat the movement six times in this new position.

To enhance the benefits of this mudra, you can recite this mantra while practicing it: «Om Gam Ganapateye Namaha». Its meaning is: «I bow down and salute Lord Ganesha»; and its energy will help you find the best solution to problems and obstacles.
