BAD INFLUENCE
In the first film, former villain Gru got adopted daughters. In the second, a girlfriend. In Despicable Me 3, which premieres today (29/6), his family continues to grow: he meets his lost twin, Dru. At first glance, the two don’t have much in common: Dru is good-natured, upbeat, excited. But he is also an outlaw, and tries to make his brother go back to his criminal times.

HAIRY CHALLENGE
Comparing the two, it looks like it was pretty easy to create Dru’s look. After all, he is almost a clone of the protagonist of the trilogy. But that hair took a lot of work: first, defining a hairstyle that represented his cheerful personality. After, find out how to apply it. “How can we grow hair on a person who doesn’t even have a forehead?” explained co-director Eric Guillon.

ACCENT? WHAT ACCENT?
Dru’s voice acting was also complex. “[Dru e Gru] needed almost similar accents, but distinct enough to indicate that they grew up in different places,” explained comedian Steve Carrell, responsible for the voice of both characters in the USA. «Gru isn’t from any specific country, so I considered it as if Dru was from two countries down.»

WHO’S BAD?
The real villain of the plot, however, is Balthazar Bratt, a former child star of the the 80s. So her look and her accoutrements are all based on that decade. That means, for example, lots of shoulder pads, neon colors, exploding Rubik’s Cubes, yo-yo attacks, and Michael Jackson-inspired moves. We are already predicting a dance duel between the characters during the credits.
