What is the hymen for?

The hymen has no known function for a woman’s body. In fact, it is not even a good way to demonstrate virginity, as it can be broken in several ways: practicing physical activities, riding a bicycle or horseback, using OB absorbents, during masturbation or even without any obvious reason. In addition, most women have the so-called complacent hymen, ring-shaped and very elastic, which practically does not interfere with penetration – that is, it is a very bad indicator of virginity. There are also other types, rarer, such as the so-called imperforate hymen, which has no openings and needs to be surgically removed because it retains menstruation.

The amount of blood vessels that irrigate the hymen also varies greatly, so not every woman bleeds when it breaks. The curious thing is that this useless membrane appears at the beginning of the development of the female embryo. At this stage, the vagina is still closed and does not have an external opening. The remnant of this embryonic vaginal lid is what forms the hymen, the famous membrane of the woman whose name refers to Hymenaeus, the Greek god of marriages.
