Was Doug Funnie molested and a drug user?

At first, the story of the animated series doug (1991-1999) is very simple: Doug Funnie is an 11-year-old boy who has just moved to a new city and, together with his friends, goes after great adventures full of imagination. But a popular theory on the internet proposes another interpretation: the boy is sexually abused by his neighbor and seeks LSD as an escape.

EVIDENCE 1

As soon as Doug moves to Bluffington, his neighbor Mr. Dink invites him to watch a movie in his shed – heavily secured by security locks. The next day, as the boy is cleaning mud off his dog, Baby Ribs, Mr. Dink appears from a bush with a camera, claiming he was trying to take a picture of a «monster».

EVIDENCE 2

The situation with Mr. Dink only gets worse: in the tenth episode of the second season, the two go on a canoe trip, but get lost. Mr. Dink says he’s going to get a campsite, but hours pass and when Doug finds him again, the neighbor is up in a tree naked! These strange behaviors would be evidence of the character’s perverted nature.

EVIDENCE 3

Throughout the series, Judy, the protagonist’s sister, does not allow Doug to enter her room – possibly because she keeps LSD there. In Season 2, Episode 6, Doug enters the hidden room and immediately runs to the basement, where he starts having visions of monsters that want to kill him. After a few minutes, we learned that the creature was nothing more than a mannequin. Had Doug been on drugs?

EVIDENCE 4

Doug’s alleged delusions are presented at different intensities throughout the episodes. It is possible to notice these cases because the character has typical symptoms, such as pixelated and colored vision and inanimate objects coming to life – in the tenth episode of the third season, he sees trees with faces. Daydreams also do not affect anyone around Doug, proving that they are illusions.
