4 Pixar secrets in the look of Joy in «Inside Out»

in animationInside Out,Happiness is one of the five “humanized emotions” that control the brain (and moods) of Riley, an 11-year-old girl who has just moved to a new city. In theory, everyone knows this feeling – but it wasn’t easy to define what she should look like. Six designers worked for 18 months to reach the final look, full of details and justifications.

Hair

The cut was inspired by actress Audrey Hepburn. The color serves to indicate that Joy is also a little down sometimes (in English, “blue” is synonymous with sadness)

The palette goes from warm (yellow) to cold (blue), passing through green. It’s a way to show the ups and downs of your mood.

Body

The triangular shape, full of points, resembles a star – a great symbol of happiness, enchantment and fascination with life

Dress

The print resembles fireworks (when Alegria really “explodes” with so much excitement), but also the synapses that roll between neurons
