Why is the inverted pentagram the symbol of black magic?

()

uncertain origin
There are no records that prove the emergence of the inverted symbol, but it is certain that it was part of ancient cultures, such as Greek and Babylonian. On the ceiling of Egyptian temples, for example, the star with five yellow points was drawn on a blue background and represented the goddess Nut, Mother of Heaven.

pagan representation
In medieval alchemy, the opposite pentagram meant the insertion of the human being into the microcosm. As a symbol of protection and magic, it was adopted by neopaganism to represent their religions – just like the cross for Christianity; and the Star of David, which characterizes Judaism

strong spikes
For pagan religions, they resemble the five elements: water, fire, earth, air and ether (the latter would be the spirit). It was common in antiquity and in the Renaissance period to associate the points of the star with the arms, legs and head of the human being. It reminds me of a Vitruvian Man…

Antichrist
For medieval Christians, the pentagram reflected the five wounds of Christ. It was a matter of time that they associated the inverted symbol with the cross in reverse (of the antichrist). But the star could also be linked to Pedro. Apostle and first leader of the Church, he would have been crucified upside down because he did not think he was worthy to die like Jesus

hidden letters
The first image of Baphomet, an occult entity, was circumscribed in an inverted pentagram. The record is from 1897 and appears in the book A Chave da Magia Negra. The symbol is the trademark of the Church of Satan, founded by the American Anton Lavey, in 1966. The letters around the image are of Hebrew origin and form the word “Leviathan“

devil project
Conspiracy theories link the pentagram to the Illuminati. The proof would be the project of architect (and Freemason) Pierre Charles L’Enfant for Washington, who created the project at the request of then President George Washington, in 1791. The plan of the district would have the shape of an inverted star. And the Illuminati, who had Masonic connections, were soon accused of demon worship.

pentacle
The five-pointed star in a circle is a variation of the pentagram and was common in ancient cultures. In neopagan religions it is used as a symbol of protection. In Satanism, it represents earthly gratification or the triumph of the individual.

strength of geometry
In science, even Pythagoras would have studied the symbol. The star became known as the “golden proportion”, which has perfect features forming regular figures. In astronomy, scholars discovered that Venus traces a pentagram when it develops an orbit around the Sun.

mystical forms

In addition to the pentagram, other icons are associated with magic and protection.
